What's in a name?
Massabielle Support operates from the grounds of the small family home of Christopher and Maureen in rural County Fermanagh. When they purchased the house from Maureen’s siblings following the passing of her mother — a respected special needs teacher — they chose to retain its original name: Massabielle. The name refers to the grotto in Lourdes, France, known as a place of stillness, presence, and transformation. The word itself is rooted in the Gascon Occitan term massavielha, meaning “old rock” — a solid, enduring place of shelter. That symbolism runs deep. Maureen’s father served as a customs and excise officer during the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Christopher’s parents were both nursing professionals on mainland UK — his father in mental health, his mother in geriatric and community care.Massabielle Support carries that legacy forward — offering calm, practical guidance, rooted in lived experience, and shaped with care.
